On Thursday 5th January 2012, Huddersfield New College was delighted to host over 500 former students and their family and friends at an evening of celebration of the achievements of the leavers of 2011 at Huddersfield Town Hall.

The evening started with a drinks reception where students could catch up with their teachers and with each other.

The formal Prize Giving Ceremony followed with a series of awards in a variety of categories.

The guest speaker was Professor Tim Thornton, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield.

He talked about the importance of education and encouraged those present not to be deterred from pursuing their Higher Education aspirations by the new tuition fees. He remarked that he was confident the young people present would go on to be highly successful and influential individuals in the future and wished them well for the future.

Professor Thornton also awarded the certificates and subject prizes.

The Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Eric Firth, was also present at the occasion and he presented two special awards the Princess Diana Active Campaigner Award, to Emily Black, Georgia Power and Dominic Phillips and The Sheffield Hallam University Award for Outstanding Academic Progress to Brandon Akem.
