Sports Academy
The Huddersfield New College Sports Academy programme is in its 10th year. 2000 saw the creation of the Men’s Football Academy, since then 5 other academy programmes have been added, the most recent being the Rugby League Academy, which is supported by the Huddersfield Giants.
Players on the academy programme train 4 times a week and compete in a variety of National league and cup structures. Players have a high expectation placed on them by coaching staff and subject tutors.
Performance and academic progress are reviewed 3 times a year, which reminds players how closely they are linked. Players receive 3 “1 to 1” reviews with their coaching staff and targets are set accordingly. In addition, players have the opportunity to gain coaching qualifications, a level 1 badge in their sport in their first year and in their second year, a level 2 generic coaching award.
Most competitive fixtures take place within the college day, however most academies play in National frameworks and therefore commitment is required above and beyond the standard college hours.
