The Cricket Academy is a relatively new venture that has had immediate success at Huddersfield new College. In only its second year the academy has proved that quality Cricket training and competition can be offered year round.

Coaching is delivered 4 times a week by Level 3 Advanced Cricket Coaches and by specialist visiting coaches from the Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Training sessions include Speed, Agility & Quickness development, specific techniques ( Bowling, Batting & Fielding) Video analysis as well as diet and nutrition.

Students have the opportunity to represent the college on Wednesdays against other colleges and school teams in the North East Region. During the winter months training is indoors in the college cricket nets and indoor cricket competitions are organised and played at Headingley.

The Academy boasts several Yorkshire Academy players as well as many promising local league players. The Academy has already been on 2 tours-
South Africa 2006 and Barbados 2008. Due to its huge success a development programme has been created where players who may have the potential for the following year can receive the same specialist coaching and play against some of the top schools and colleges in Yorkshire.

Craig Fletcher

Elland Cricket Club & Yorkshire County Cricket Club Academy

Craig is a promising pace bowler/batsman who is in his 1st year at New College studying for a BTEC National in Sport. He has represented Yorkshire at U13 – U17 level and has also played for England U17’s. He has ambitions to play 1st class Cricket in the future.

Gregg Finn

Lightcliffe Cricket Club

Gregg is in his 2nd year studying A levels including sport and Physical Education. He is a opening batsman who has represented Halifax at Joe Lumb level and was named Joe Lumb player of the year. Greg was a member of the Huddersfield New College Academy tour to South Africa in February 2006 and has ambitions to go on to a University which specialises in Cricket.
