Creative Media Production (Games Development) (BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma)
Specific Entry Criteria
Grade C in English Language or Maths and preferably a grade C in GCSE Art or Media Studies.
About the Subject
Do you consider yourself a creative individual? Do you enjoy computer games? Would you like a career in the media? The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development) is equivalent to 3 A-levels.
During the course you will undertake a range of creative projects focussed on computer games development and the related media industries.
Course Content
Year 1
You will study a range of media units, relating to research techniques, production techniques and communication skills for creative media production.
You will study games development units including computer game technologies, computer games design and understanding the games industry. You will also study a selection of creative units including concept art, digital graphics for the interactive media, web design and 3D environments.
Year 2
In the second year you will complete a project bringing together all the aspects of the course.
You will study units relating to computer games development including digital graphics for computer games, human-computer interfaces for computer games, game story development, Flash for computer games and 3D animation.
You will also study further units relating to the media industry, including working to a brief in the media industries, critical approaches to media products and photography and photographic practice.
On completion of these units you will develop skills in formal writing, team working and pitching ideas.
Assessment
Each unit is assessed by coursework only which is internally marked and externally sampled by BTEC. All units must be attempted to gain the qualification.
