About the Subject

Do you have a desire to learn how to create websites? Would you like to learn how to create graphics? Are you interested in a career in multimedia or website design? If you answered yes to any of these questions, perhaps this is the course for you!

This vocational course is designed to help those who want to learn real life IT skills to create websites including graphics and animated graphics for use via the internet.

Throughout this course, you will learn how to use a variety of software applications used within the multimedia industry for web authoring, graphic manipulation and graphic animation. In addition, students will develop skills in researching aspects of the multimedia industry and apply this knowledge to scenarios based on real life employment situations. These practical skills will assist learners in developing time management skills including project planning.

This is a two year course leading to a BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma which is equivalent to one A level. There are no exams so all evidence proving your success is through a portfolio.

Course Content

Year 1

Within the first year, you will learn the importance of designing a website from a “User’s” perspective. In addition, you will learn about the different types of hardware devices and software applications for website management. You will use this knowledge to develop necessary troubleshooting techniques when working with different computer platforms.

You will learn current industry practices and standards when developing websites for a global market. This includes learning HTML and CSS Programming Languages.

Year 2

During the second year of study, you will continue to develop more advanced skills in multimedia and website management by learning to use java script to create an interacting web site as well as CSS to enhance layout.

It is within this year that you will be expected to develop your research techniques and project planning skills to help you to create a near professional multimedia solution.

You will be responsible for creating, implementing and updating an interactive website over a period of time. You will learn how to create animated graphics using specialist software.

Assessment

Each unit is assessed by coursework only; is internally marked and externally moderated by the awarding body. All units must be completed to gain the qualification.

You are expected to take active responsibility for your own projects. You will be given several briefs for which you must plan, produce and evaluate solutions to a set deadline, simulating the real world.
