About the Subject
To study this course, you should first and foremost have an interest in a career which involves working with people. The care sector is one of the country’s biggest and most diverse employers offering a wide range of jobs in both health and social care. This BTEC course will not only provide you with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career in the care sector but also provide you with a good foundation for many degree courses depending on your choice of other subjects.
This is a course you can start from scratch and covers a wide variety of interesting topics. The theory is closely related to practice and you will take part in work experience. The course will enable you to develop your self-confidence and communication skills through group work, roleplays and presentations as well as transferable skills such as time management and organisation, which are useful in any area of employment.
Course Content
Year 1
- Developing effective Communication in Health and Social Care will enable you to reflect on your own existing skills and explore and develop the skills needed for effective communication in different situations.
- Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care will enable you to look at these issues in the care environment with a view to protecting clients and those working in this sector.
- Caring for Children and Young People This will develop understanding of care in relation to, ‘looked after children’. It will look at legislation and safeguarding procedures.
Year 2
- Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care will enable you to understand the immense diversity of individuals in British society and how good practice in H & S C recognises and copes with this.
- Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care will give information relating to body systems and the way they work.
- Values and Planning in Social Care This looks are the values that professionals should hold within the profession. It also looks at how care is planned through care planning processes and multi disciplinary working.
Assessment
All of the work is assessed through course work.
