Support for students > Disability Statement

ADMISSION TO COLLEGE

The College welcomes students with a learning difficulty or disability. We will try to make sure that you receive the support you need in order to succeed on your chosen programme of study. Currently the College has no specialist provision for students with moderate or severe learning difficulties.

The College fully supports and wishes to ensure that it complies with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (as amended by the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2000). If you wish to enrol at the College and have a disability, please ensure that we know what you need so that we can make all reasonable adjustments to help you succeed.

Admission to College can be arranged in a way that suits your individual needs. All applicants are invited for interview and general details of any needs you might have will be discussed then. Contact will be made for you with Christine Woodrow, Assistant Principal (named contact), who will arrange to discuss your individual requirements and the specific kind of support you may require whilst studying at College.

As part of the Admissions process, the Health & Safety Officer will complete a risk assessment to help ensure your safety in college.

SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS

The support that we offer will depend on your individual needs and is organised on an individual basis. Support may include:

. an individual assessment of your learning needs and regular reviews of
progress on an individual basis through our Personal Tutor scheme.
. access to our Study Centre which provides additional learning support for
communications, numeracy and study skills as well as subject specific
support and extension materials. Leaflets outlining the support available are
on racks in the Study Centre.
. specialist tutors who are familiar with the needs of students with specific
learning difficulties such as dyslexia.
. specialist equipment and facilities or individual support tutors.
. access to fully-qualified careers advisers.

The College Catering Service is happy to discuss any special dietary requirements. Please contact Christine Woodrow if you wish to discuss these.

All subjects are accessible to wheelchair users. The building is regularly reviewed to ensure the college complies with current legislation.

Our procedures for emergency evacuation of the building (for example in case of fire) take into account wheelchair users and those with impaired hearing and sight.

Transport from home to College can be arranged.

OTHER INFORMATION

We will try to accommodate any student whom the College feels could benefit from a programme of study with us and will seek to make any reasonable adjustment to our provision in order to meet a student's needs.

We try to ensure that any student with a learning difficulty or disability can take full advantage of educational trips and visits and work experience placements. We are also committed to providing access to enrichment activities wherever possible.
