ALUMNI JOURNEY: FROM A LEVEL ECONOMICS TO DEGREE LEVEL ECONOMICS
21.01.2026HNC’s A Level Economics students recently welcome backed alumnus Pablo Pepworth – who left the College in 2023 to pursue a degree in Economics and Finance at Northumbria University – to share more about his experience post-18, and how the opportunities available at HNC helped him to secure a place on his dream degree programme.
A Level Economics is a subject that facilitates progression to a wide range of degrees and careers and is a much-respected A Level amongst employers and universities alike. We recently welcomed back past student Pablo, who studied A Level Economics at HNC and progressed on to a degree in Economics and Finance at Northumbria University. Pablo discussed how his HNC journey shaped his success and vision for the future, and shared more about what he’s been up to since he left the College in 2023, offering support, advice and guidance for those in our current cohort who are hoping to follow a similar route.
Pablo’s session also looked at the university application process. He shared his top tips for writing a successful personal statement, including how the experiences available at HNC helped him to stand out from the crowd and encouraging the group to make the most of the opportunities on offer at HNC to maximise their chances of securing their first choice of university. Daryl Stappard, Head of Faculty (Humanities), shares more “It is always a pleasure to welcome back a past student to hear more about their journey beyond HNC. Pablo was a student who genuinely made the most of his time at College and worked hard to ‘become his best self’. He shared more about his experience with our current cohort, showcasing how by taking part in the wide range of opportunities on offer at HNC, they will be in a better position to achieve their ambitions. It is a big decision, planning for progression, so hearing from a peer who can provide a genuine insight into a potential next step is incredibly useful.
