Despite the pandemic, Travel and Tourism is a rapidly growing industry offering many career options and the chance to work with people of all ages and backgrounds. The industry is undergoing a period of rapid growth, both home and abroad, and the sector has seen a large increase in customers, leading to plenty of new and exciting career opportunities.

The topics you study will help you to develop an in-depth understanding of global destinations and the exciting opportunities available in this rapidly growing industry.

This is only available as part of the Applied Pathway, as it is a full time study programme. This means you will not study any other subjects alongside this.

Educate, Enrich, Enlighten

You’ll enjoy learning through a variety of experiences including group work, independent research, case studies, role plays, report writing, presentations and examination preparation. A range of trips and experiences are also available to destinations such as to Blackpool, Spain and Flamingo Land. To enhance your future employment prospects, you will have the chance to study additional qualifications such as Air Cabin Crew, Resort Representatives and Events Planning.

You’ll gain valuable sector experience throughout your time on the course through a mixture of guest speakers and additional qualifications, combining your classroom learning with high quality industry work placements, trips and visits. Our students have developed their skills, knowledge and built their practical skills through a wide range of activities. Our students have benefitted from:

  • Visiting guest speakers from local and national travel and tourism experts
  • Trips and visits to key destinations to bring learning to life
  • Additional qualifications such as NCFE Cabin Crew and Holiday Rep Representative
  • High value work placements to build key employability skills
  • Working with the local community for charitable causes

Assessment is via presentations, group work and assignments and externally assessed exams. Your work will be graded at pass, merit or distinction giving you an overall grade at the end of the course

The Travel and Tourism industry remains one of the biggest and fastest growing sectors in the world, and our students often pursue it at degree level or enter related employment. Our graduates have progressed to a hugely diverse range of opportunities within Tourism Management, Events and Hospitality, as Air Cabin Crew, and with a range of leading companies including Jet2.

Good to Know

Although Covid-19 has temporarily impacted the industry, this resilient and responsive industry is in recovery and preparing for a not too distant future when we are all able to enjoy our leisure time. Grant Thornton report that by the 2023 holiday season - just two years away - the sector is expected to be achieving revenues of 90% - 100% of pre-Covid-19 levels.
