A Level Textile and 3D Design students from HNC have recently returned from an enlightening visit to the UCAS ‘Create Your Future’ careers fair in Manchester, where the group explored potential creative next steps, followed by a visit to the city centre where students explored Manchester’s iconic architecture and culture as part of their investigations for future projects.
At HNC students are supported to plan for their next steps in a number of ways, and in this insightful visit to the UCAS ‘Create Your Future’ event, students from the College’s A Level Textile and 3D Design courses enjoyed an inspiring experience hearing from a variety of universities and employers about the wide range of creative career possibilities beyond HNC. On the day, the group were able to speak to universities and apprenticeship providers to discover more about the creative courses on offer across the UK, with the opportunity to hear more from students and apprentices about the routes they had chosen and their top tips for those hoping to follow in their footsteps. On the day, the group could also opt to take part in specialist workshops, enjoy performances and seek one-to-one advice from creative industry experts.
Following the ‘Create Your Future’ event, the group then spent time in central Manchester where students visited St Peter’s Square, a central hub of Manchester’s culture and creativity, and captured primary photographs of landmarks including the Central Library and the Midland Hotel as part of their initial investigations for an upcoming architectural and design project. This was followed by a visit to the Manchester Art Gallery, home to works by Ford Maddox Brown and L.S. Lowry, where the group gained inspiration from the details and materials used by some of the world’s most celebrated artists, supporting them to develop a deeper artistic insight which will inform their future studies.
Sara Graul, Faculty Lead Enlighten Art and Media, comments “Our annual visit to the ‘Create Your Future’ event is a genuinely enlightening opportunity for our arts students to discover more about where their creativity could take them beyond HNC. This is an invaluable experience for our students and helps them to plan their next steps with confidence. I know that many of the group have taken inspiration from the event and are excited for where their next steps after HNC can take them. It was lovely to spend time in Manchester, a city known for its culture and heritage, and the investigations our students have completed during the trip will inspire their future works. Thank you to our students who embodied our values of commitment, motivation and enthusiasm and have genuinely used this experience to plan how they can become their best selves”.
