Students studying at HNC can expect an enriching experience both inside and outside of the classroom and today, students studying Applied Sports and Exercise Science enjoyed hearing from former student Patrick about his journey from HNC to Huddersfield Town Football Club (HTAFC) where he now works as a Physiotherapist.
In Applied Sports and Exercise Science, students explore a range of topics that support entry into related careers such as Physiotherapy. Recently, the group have been working on a module exploring ‘sports injuries’, where students look at ways in which athletes can prevent injuries, and how injuries which can’t be prevented can be treated. In this guest workshop, Patrick, who studied Applied Sports and Exercise Science here at HNC and is the Physiotherapist for HTAFC’s Academy youth team, spoke at length about the injuries seen in elite football, and how team Physiotherapy plays an essential part in keeping players strong and healthy. During the session, Patrick discussed some genuine injury examples and how they were treated, and how those injuries could be prevented in the future.
During the session, Patrick also shared more with the group about his journey from HNC to becoming a Physiotherapist, and how he secured his dream job working for a professional football club. He also shared more about his role at HTAFC and what the day in a life of a professional football Physiotherapist entails.
Jo Robson, Teacher of Applied Sports and Exercise Science comments “In Applied Sports and Exercise Science, students explore a wide range of topics that help them to develop knowledge of the science behind sporting success. Many of our current group are hoping to follow in Patrick’s footsteps and progress to areas such as Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation, and found Patrick’s story useful for future career planning, as well as incredibly motivational! As we have recently been exploring sports injuries in lessons it has been genuinely beneficial for our students to see these lessons brought to life through Patrick’s guest workshop, where the group were able to see how the knowledge developed in the classroom can be applied in real-life scenarios. Thanks to Patrick for taking the time to visit his former College and inspire the next generation of sports professionals”.
