Year 13 students from across HNC are now in the process of firming up their progression plans, visiting university open days and taking part in taster sessions to help inform their next steps. As part of this process, HNC recently welcomed Leeds Trinity University to College to deliver a workshop on Primary Teaching for students who are hoping to progress to a related career.
Offering a range of degree programmes with QTS, both for the Early Years (ages 3-7) and the Later Years (ages 5-11), Leeds Trinity University has been working with students from across HNC who have ambitions to progress into teaching, supporting them to feel confident in their progression plans and provide a greater insight into life as a student studying for their teaching qualification. In this first of three planned sessions, the team from Leeds Trinity hosted a reading workshop at HNC, with students finding out more about the rewarding tole of teaching and how reading in the Early Years forms a fundamental part of a child’s development.
During the session, students from HNC also heard from students currently studying across the university’s Primary Teaching courses, from hearing more about the valuable work experiences that come with taking a degree with QTS, to hints and tips on how to effectively engage young learners with literacy. Students on the day were also able to take part in an informative Q&A, as well as discovering more about the admissions and application process. Future sessions are planned to support students with mock interviews, preparing them for the wider UCAS application process.
Maria Dean, Assistant Principal, comments “As our students prepare to submit their UCAS applications, opportunities to explore their future career paths via open events, taster sessions and bespoke workshops are crucial in insuring they make confident and informed choices. Primary Teaching is a popular choice, and fully understanding the commitment that undertaking a degree with QTS and hearing more from current university students about their experiences has provided our hopeful future teachers with a genuine insight into their next steps. We have a broad range of exciting opportunities for our students to engage with in the lead up to the UCAS admissions deadline in January, and we can’t wait to hear more from our students about where they will be heading next. Thank you to the team at Leeds Trinity for such an informative and helpful session”.
