A group of HNC’s XL students recently enjoyed a special visit to the University of Cambridge to help them explore their potential future at this world leading university, and inspire them about the possibilities available to them.
HNC’s XL programme ensures students with the academic profile required to aim for world class universities understand the doors their qualifications can open, and that they receive the help and advice they need to apply to leading institutions. The visit to Cambridge was part of bespoke support package for XL students who have expressed interest in applying for Oxbridge universities.
As part of a group of students with similar aspirations from local Colleges, the action packed day saw our students enjoy a talk from the Master of Selwyn, which explored the limitations of lectures and the supervision system, imposter syndrome, what Cambridge seek from applicants and how students can stretch themselves academically.
Following this inspiring session, students were able to enjoy a tour of the historic university and soak up the atmosphere in the iconic library and chapel. The group were then given free time to explore Cambridge and envision what life might be like living in the area. A selection of photos from the day can be found below.
Catherine Cushnie, Assistant Principal comments: “At HNC we support all students to develop their vision, aim high and achieve their full potential. Some of our young people aspire to secure a place at a world leading university and our visit to the University of Cambridge was part of our work to both inspire our students about the possibilities available to them, and help them to understand how they can make their dream a reality. It was an incredibly inspiring day, and it was great to see students envisaging and discussing what life might look like for them at the University of Cambridge.”
