MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING: HNC GIVES BACK

Last week, HNC joined others from across the UK in hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning, selling a selection of home-made cakes, bakes, biscuits and sweet treats in order to raise vital funds for Macmillan, who provide a wide range of support for those who are living with cancer. We are delighted to reveal that our fundraising efforts raised a brilliant £443.25!

Donations from thousands of Coffee Mornings, big and small, help raise vital funds to support the 3 million people in the UK living with cancer, from the moment they are diagnosed, throughout treatment and beyond. The money raised from these events, which have been taking place since 1990, support a wide range of services, from support through treatment via Macmillan funded nurses, to help with the unexpected costs that living with cancer can bring. This year, HNC hosted two Coffee Mornings to raise as much as possible for this worthy cause, and staff were tasked with “donating their baking” to support the College’s fundraising efforts. Donations ranged from a home-made victoria sponge cake to tropical cupcakes, indulgent chocolate cakes to billionaire’s shortbread, giant cookies to gooey brownies, and a much admired courgette, lime and pistachio cake, all washed down with fresh tea and coffee kindly donated by the College caterers, Impact.

Samantha Daley, Communications Officer, comments “Our Macmillan Coffee Morning was a great success and I would like to thank the HNC community for coming together to raise money for this very worthy cause. On the day, we were inundated with donations of delicious sweet treats, all home-made by HNC staff, and staff and students alike were incredibly generous in their donations. Many shared their own stories on how cancer has affected the people they know and love, which really did bring home just how important fundraising for Macmillan is. Someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer every two minutes, and our efforts as a community will add to the funds raised up and down the country to support those living with cancer”.

Our Macmillan Coffee Morning is just one of the ways we give back as a College. We will soon be tasking our student body to vote for this year’s chosen charity of the year – further information will be shared in upcoming Aspire sessions.
