As our College community approaches the end of another busy week, we are delighted to share more about how we will be prompting discussions around the importance of good mental health on World Mental Health Day on Thursday 10 October. We’d also like to remind all of our community we will be turning HNC yellow on this day and asking students and staff to wear something yellow or collect a free pin badge to demonstrate why it is good to talk!
World Mental Health Day will see the nation coming together to talk about mental health and why it matters. While students at HNC can access support and advice all year round, this day is an opportunity to prompt discussions about why talking about mental health is so important and share hints, ideas and strategies about how we can all protect and improve our mental wellbeing.
As part of this, staff and students will be wearing something yellow, and will be able to collect a free pin badge. In the Junction we’ll be reminding everyone about how they can access the tools and support to help them to deal with life’s challenges via our Student Wellbeing and pastoral support, and encouraging discussions around this crucial topic. As part of this, students will be sharing their thoughts on how good mental wellbeing can be achieved, and the advice they would give to others who may be experiencing poor mental health.
Given the clear link between physical activity and good mental health, we will also have some local gyms sharing their current student offers, and students will also be able to book on to our wide range of sports enrichment opportunities.
James Tindall, Enlighten Lead comments: “Here at HNC we continuously work to help our students understand the importance of good mental wellbeing and highlight that we should all feel confident talking about our mental health without stigma or fear. World Mental Health Day is a real opportunity to shine a spotlight on why talking about mental health is so important, and get our community sharing their top tips for good mental wellbeing. We’ll also be reminding our students how we can support them to deal with the tools and strategies to develop the resilience to deal with life’s challenges. We can’t wait to create a sea of yellow, and join the nationwide discussion about mental health!”
