As you may or may not be aware, Sixth Form Colleges, unlike schools and academies, are unable to claim back VAT costs. This is simply because the Office for National Statistics categorise Sixth Form Colleges as private sector organisations.

For the average Sixth Form College, it is estimated that this costs approximately £335,000 per year which obviously cannot then be spent on educational resources.

As part of their first campaign since elections were held, HNC's Student Union will be raising awareness of this issue, and they would be grateful of your support if you were able to spend two minutes of your time signing this e-petition to 'drop the learning tax'.

Several high profile people have signed the petition, including Colin Firth and Dermot O’Leary, and letters have been sent to Nicky Morgan via local MPs. This is an important issue that all Sixth Form Colleges across the UK face, and we can't stress enough how important this campaign is.

Just think of the difference that £300,000 could have made to us. Wouldn't it be great if together we could make that difference?

Thank you in advance for your support!
