Record numbers of HNC students have submitted applications for a place at university by the UCAS deadline on the 15th January. This news comes just a few months after the college reported its 3rd consecutive record-breaking exam results in August 2014.
Year 13 students submitted a fantastic 743 UCAS applications, totaling 80% of this year’s cohort. The remainder of students are busy applying for high-skilled apprenticeships, vocational training courses or pursuing employment with the support of the College’s Progress Tutors.
Commenting on this year’s record UCAS applications, Principal Angela Williams, said “We work hard to support our students with their university applications, and these latest figures are testament to that. The number of students applying for university demonstrates that the College continues to support students to exceed expectations and to compete fiercely with their peers for a much coveted place at university”.
This year, students have applied to over 100 different universities- including Russell Group institutions- the length and breadth of the UK. Course choices were incredibly varied this year, with students applying for vocational courses such as Teaching. Nursing, Dentistry and Medicine as well as ‘traditional’ academic courses in the Arts, Humanities and STEM related subjects.
This Class of 2015 will have to work hard to beat the success of 2014 though; the Class of 2014 achieved a 100% pass rate on 47 A/AS Level courses, a 99% pass rate overall (A Levels and vocational equivalents), with 45% achieving prestigious A*, A and B grades or equivalent. This allowed over 700 students to successfully gain a place at university, including Russell Group institutions, in 2014.
Principal Angela Williams, said “Our Class of 2014 have joined the élite of British education taking up places to read a range of degree courses including Maths, PPE, Theology, Biology, Architecture, Law, etc., and after completing their degrees, they will join the next generation of world leaders in these fields”.
After last year’s success, we can't wait to start hearing all about our students’ offers this year!
