Every year, the College's Library collects and donates late fines collected during December to the National Literacy Trust. This supports literacy and reading skills in children, young adults and adults across the country.
This year HNC Library went one step further and hosted a Big Book Sale as part of a national fund raising week for the Trust, where books of all genres donated by staff and students could be bought for £1 or less. College Librarian, Rebecca Wilson, also organised a Big Book Quiz with 20 challenging literary questions for students to answer. Entry was only £1 and there were £30 worth of prizes picked from The Literary Gift Company to be won.
The week-long event started on Monday 30th November, and throughout the week many staff and students treated themselves to a new book or two! Five students took part in the Big Book Quiz, and Jacob Livingstone was the lucky winner of the contest, beating everyone else by one correct answer, to win the bag of prizes.
By the end of the week we had raised exactly £62 for the Trust – a new record for the Library, which had previously been set at £52 on World Book Day back in 2013!
Rebecca Wilson, College Librarian, is extremely proud and thankful for the support across college – “I was truly amazed by how many books students as well as staff donated to the sale and astonished by how many visited the Library to find a book to buy".
