HNC Library applied for and achieved World Book Night Book Giver status for a second consecutive year. As part of their role they are given a set amount of select book titles to give away free to HNC students and staff to encourage and promote the life changing force of reading.
This year the titles were 'Reasons to Stay Alive' by Matt Haig, 'Am I Normal Yet?' By Holly Bourne and 'Shadow and Bone' by Leigh Bardugo. HNC Library received 16 copies of each of these exciting new books.
12 students who had recently completed Reading Agency’s 'Reading Ahead' challenge were allowed to have first pick at the titles as a bonus prize and the remaining copies were then available on a first come first serve basis to the whole college community.
This year’s World Book Night Book Giveaway was a tremendous success, with all the remaining copies being given out in under 3 hours! A new record set against the day & a half of last year’s giveaway. Overall 14 HNC staff took home a new book to read or to share with partners, friends or pass on to their children and an amazing 34 HNC students seized the same opportunity.
Indeed the books have proven so popular and with so many other staff and students asking after them that College Librarian, Rebecca Hill, has decided she will order a few copies of each of the titles to add to the Library collection to enable eager readers to enjoy them.
Fingers crossed HNC Library’s 2017 World Book Night application is granted to ensure another successful literacy boost to the college.
