Students who study BTEC Sport Development or Sport Science at Huddersfield New College have recently been enjoying access to some outstanding work experience opportunities as part of their studies.

All students at HNC have the opportunity to undertake work experience placements regardless of their study programme, with a dedicated Workplace Placement Officer available to help students source placements that will support them to achieve their future career and university ambitions. Our Sports students have recently enjoyed some fantastic work placements linked to both their sporting interests and future career plans.

John Culpan is a great example of this. As a Talented Athlete who cycles for team GB, John’s work experience has seen him combine the development of some unique skills and knowledge with his passion for cycling. John is shadowing his Coach, former GB Cyclist Matthew Crompton, at the Manchester Velodrome as he trains some of the best under-16 cyclists. As a GB Cyclist himself, John is helping the young cyclists with race techniques and riding the velodrome under pressure. John is pictured above working with one of the young riders.

Wayne Russell, Head of Sport, comments: “Our students progress to some unique destinations. The Sport industry can be highly competitive, and work experience is not only an important part of the study programme, but also in helping them prepare for applying for the very best university places and jobs. John’s experience of combining his sporting passion whilst gaining industry experience that will support him in the future is a real example of the unique opportunities our students enjoy.”
