Huddersfield New College has been named the number one organisation in the UK for Equality and Diversity – for the third year running! HNC received the award at the National Centre for Diversity (NCFD) awards ceremony last night. The evening was a double celebration as HNC was also named as the Further Education Provider of the Year.

NCFD publish an annual Index covering the UK’s private, public and third sectors, naming the top 100 organisations across the country for their commitment to Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement (FREDIE). For the third year running, Huddersfield New College has been named number one in this index – and has also been awarded the accolade of Further Education Provider of the Year!

The awards reflect how students and staff learn and work in a thriving, vibrant and inclusive environment where young people are given the opportunity to explore and celebrate their own differences and those of others.

Angela Williams OBE comments: “We are of course absolutely thrilled to be named as number one in the UK for the third year running, and to have also taken the title of  Further Education Provider of the Year! These awards are a reflection of our culture at HNC, and how our staff, students and Governors genuinely share a commitment to fairness and ensuring everyone in our College family is treated with respect and dignity. Our events and focus weeks regularly celebrate this, and I would like to congratulate our whole community on these awards – their commitment to making the principles of FREDIE part of their daily lives in and out of College is what makes us award winning.”

NCFD Chief Executive, Solat Chaudhry, said: “It is an astonishing achievement for Huddersfield New College to attain the top position for the third year in a row. It shows the consummate professionalism and wonderful inclusive leadership qualities of the Senior Management Team.”
