SHAPING VISIONS FOR THE FUTURE: HNC STUDENTS GET READY TO BE INSPIRED

HNC has revealed that Year 12 and Year 13 students will be taking part in Vision Week, a special week in College that provides all students with access to an incredible series of activities and guest speakers designed to help inspire them about the career possibilities available to them after HNC, and plan their personal journey to success. The week will run from Monday 9 December – Friday 13 December.

While students access support for careers planning, and opportunities to learn more about where their qualifications can take them throughout the year, Vision Week will see a special focus and celebration of all things careers related through visiting Alumni, guest speakers and additional activities in the classroom – all of which together aim to develop students’ understanding of the careers that are available to them, and ensure they shape a clear plan for their next steps.

Just a few of the planned activities include:

  • Art and Media:  a visit from actress Zoe Lucker for Drama students and activities that will help students understand how they can effectively network with peers in their chosen industries. Art groups will also be creating vision boards, and enjoying Q&A sessions with HNC Alumni
  • Maths and Science: students will hear from a range of universities including Hull, UCLAN and Derby on a diversity of STEM careers and degree level study
  • Health and Sport: will access a range of specialist degree talks, and experience a visit from the NHS regarding placement opportunities. The Army will also be advising students about the diversity of careers on offer
  • Humanities: will explore the realities of life in the Probation Service, experience visits from universities and our Economics students will also be discovering more about what being in accountancy and property is really like
  • Social Sciences: we’ll be welcoming back HNC Alumni who will be providing real life examples and insights into the fascinating fields they work in, and sharing more about the different routes available. There will also be a special focus on the skills needed to succeed in the Social Sciences specialisms, including Psychology
  • Business and IT: these groups will enjoy an exciting range of employer and university led visits and interactive sessions – including from ASDA, Morrisons, Jet2 and Sheffield University. Students will also be setting themselves some personal targets for the future.

This is just a small flavour of what students can expect – further information about specific opportunities will be shared via teachers and Teams.

Maria Dean, Assistant Principal comments: “From the moment we meet a student we start to explore their vision for the future, and how they plan to get there. Naturally, during a student’s post-16 journey plans may change and evolve, and as a College we work hard to ensure that students fully understand the vast range of opportunities available to them so that they can realise their full potential post HNC. Vision Week sees our whole College coming together to enjoy a focused week of activities, all of which enable students to experience the stories of professionals who have excelled in fields linked to their chosen study programme, learn more about the apprenticeship or degree options available to them and ask an expert their questions. We are delighted to be welcoming back a  variety of HNC Alumni who will be providing an insight into their journey – we can’t wait for what will be a fast paced and genuinely motivational week.”
