HNC has recently welcomed Leeds Trinity University to inspire the next generation of teachers and share more about what their next steps could look like if they choose to progress to a teaching degree post-HNC.
30 students from across the College who have indicated an interesting into progressing to teaching enjoyed a special workshop hosted by Leeds Trinity University, where the group heard from two third-year student ambassadors who study two of the University’s teaching courses, BA (Hons) Primary Education QTS (Early Years 3-7) and BA (Hons) Primary Education QTS (Later Years 5-11). During the session, the student ambassadors shared more about their university experience so far, and how important their placements have been to their development.
As well as hearing from the student ambassadors, students were also invited to take part in a range of hands-on activities designed to showcase the skills needed to work with children in an educational setting. The group also explored the different teaching pathways available to them post-HNC, and the differences between the courses on offer. In the next scheduled session, students taking part will be invited to participate in a mock interview session, providing an opportunity to practise and develop their interview techniques ahead of the university admissions process.
Rebecca King, Work Experience Officer, shares more “Students studying at HNC enjoy plenty of opportunities to plan for their next steps after College, whether that’s through work experience placements or through high value guest workshops. Our recent workshop in collaboration with Leeds Trinity University has provided students who are hoping to progress to a teaching degree a genuine insight into what they can expect from their future career vision. I would encourage students to speak with their Progress Tutors and ensure they keep up to date with the Careers Team so that they can engage with all the brilliant development opportunities on offer at HNC”
