Our Applied Art and Design students are currently busy preparing for their online and physical exhibition for students and staff. Not only have our students created stunning pieces of work that are meaningful to them, they have developed their employability and wider skills as part of a response to a professional agency style brief to produce the marketing collateral for the exhibition.
Nexus of Visions (the name chosen by the group in reflection of the diversity of styles the exhibition encompasses) brings together an eclectic collection of work, with students selecting their favourite style and technique explored during their learning journey to produce a piece of work. This is being put together as an exhibition in Reception, and will be live from Monday 15 December until Friday 19 December. It will also be available to view online at huddnewcoll.ac.uk – further details will be released soon. However, you can expect to see pieces that reflect the diversity of techniques and styles that Applied Art and Design students explore, from 3D models, painting, prints, digital images and photography to ceramics and sketches.
The exhibition also presented an opportunity for students to develop their employability, teamwork and wider professional skills, with the College’s Admissions and Communications Director setting a brief for the group to produce the marketing materials for the exhibition including a logo, posters, social media graphics and a flyer. As part of this students have had to think about how their natural creativity and flair can work with professional requirements such as brand guidelines and house style.
A selection of their work can be found below. The Communications team are currently reviewing submissions, and will be using their chosen pieces in next week’s promotional activity.
Hayley Doyle, Admissions and Communications director comments: “Our Art and Design students have blown the team away with the talent and professionalism of their marketing materials. The group were presented with an agency standard brief, and it has been amazing to see how they have balanced the requirements of this with their creativity and talent. It is genuinely going to be an incredibly difficult decision to choose the ones that will form the basis of the marketing campaign for the exhibition.”
Christian Braime, Teacher of Applied Art and Design says: “Regardless of the specialism, progressing into the industry requires students to balance client or organisational requirements with their own creativity and talents. This has been a brilliant opportunity for our students to experience this in a real life context, alongside producing their chosen piece of work for the final exhibition. The standard of work is incredible, and we look forward to launching the exhibition online and in person on Monday!”
The physical exhibition will be open to staff and students Monday 15 December – Friday 19 December. Our online exhibition will be live from Monday so that parents/carers and our wider community can also explore the talents of our young people.
