HNC has revealed that applicants for 2025 entry (or those who intend to apply) can experience a unique and exciting opportunity at our lesson tasters with a chance to join a session which will provide an early taste of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
The EPQ is worth half an A-Level (up to 28 UCAS points) and allows students to explore a topic or issue that they are passionate about, beyond their studies. It requires students to develop and employ higher level study skills such as research, time management, project management, presentation skills, academic writing and referencing skills – making it a key way our students shine during competitive university application processes, while allowing them to hone their higher level academic skills.
Given the nature of the EPQ, it is usually suited to those on an A Level programme, and naturally students will need to commit to investing in their future selves, as undertaking an EPQ is an optional additional qualification that involves extended independent study, research and the production of a final project. However, HNC will discuss the appropriateness of an EPQ with all interested students and specialist staff are on hand to guide students through their EPQ journey.
At the lesson tasters students can book up to four sessions, so those who wish to explore their three subject choices can still do so, while experiencing the EPQ taster. At this fast paced session, guests will look at how to find, use and manage reliable, academic sources in addition to looking at some great EPQ project titles – along with some not great ones!
Daryl Stappard, Head of Faculty comments: “Undertaking an EPQ is a fantastic experience, allowing a student to delve deeply into a subject they are passionate about and produce a research led report in response to a question. It is so highly valued as it sees students effectively doing all of the things they will need to as part of degree level study. Every year I am blown away by the quality of EPQ submissions, and enlightened as a teacher by some of the topics our students choose to explore! We can’t wait to discuss some early ideas with our 2025 applicants, and help them to understand why undertaking an EPQ will set them apart.”
Bookings are now open for our lesson tasters, and the EPQ option can be found within the booking system. Click here to read more and book for our lesson tasters now now!
