XL STUDENTS EXPLORE POTENTIAL NEXT STEPS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE
05.03.2026A group of students from HNC’s XL Programme recently visited Selwyn College, Cambridge, to explore one of their potential next steps after college and find out more about one of the UK’s top universities.
HNC’s XL Programme is designed to support students who aspire to progress to the UK’s top universities, or competitive degree level courses such as Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science. Those enrolled on the programme have access to a wide variety of specialist support, ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge to confidently apply for their next steps.
XL students enjoy taking part in broad range of experiences, from guest lectures, access to summer school placements and wider support with university interviews and applications, and bespoke support for those targeting a place at Oxbridge. Recently, a number of the College’s XL students were invited to spend the day at Selwyn College, Cambridge, to discover more about the College and the wider university experience.
On the day, the group heard from the College’s Admissions Tutors, who shared more about the application process, dispelling common myths and offering guidance and advice on what areas to focus on during the process. The group also learnt more about how study at Cambridge differs from other universities, and how the university supports its students to achieve success. After learning more about the university, the group spent some time in the historic centre of Cambridge.

Our recent visit to Selwyn College, Cambridge was an opportunity for a group of our XL students to explore what life could look like as a student at one of the UK’s top universities, and the importance of the application process in securing their vision for the future. It was an incredibly inspiring day, and I know that the experience has enlightened our students to the possibilities beyond HNC”
