HNC is delighted to reveal that HNC student Matthew has recently secured a position with ‘Big Four’ firm, KPMG, beating tens of thousands of hopefuls who applied for one of KPMG’s prestigious and much coveted apprenticeship opportunities.
KPMG, a global network of professional firms providing Audit, Tax and Advisory services to business, runs a successful apprenticeship programme, offering 900 spaces annually across its UK operations to apprenticeship hopefuls. With over 50,000 applications, the application process is rigorous, and applicants must pass a five-step process before sitting a final interview. Matthew, who studies A Level Business, A Level Biology and A Level Geography and will be completing his studies later this year, successfully navigated the application process, securing a place on an Auditing apprenticeship, and will be based in KPMG’s Leeds office while he undertakes his qualifications over the next five years.
Matthew, who was unsure of which area of Business or the route he wanted to pursue after HNC, accessed a range of support from the College’s Careers team to help him to formulate his post-18 plans. Matthew comments “When I joined HNC, I knew I wanted to progress to a career in Business, but I wasn’t entirely sure I wanted to progress to University. I met with the Careers team at HNC to discuss my options, and very quickly decided that a degree level apprenticeship was the right next step for me. I researched my options thoroughly and applied for a variety of apprenticeship positions, but I know that I was keen to secure a position at KPMG. Although I initially applied with a view to progressing to an Accountancy based career, the application process and tasks introduced me to the role of Auditing”
“My advice for students hoping to secure a place on a competitive degree programme is to take advantage of the support and advice on offer at HNC, keep an open mind, gain as much confidence and experience as you can, and be your authentic self throughout the application and interview process”.
Joe Norton, Head of Faculty Enrich, comments “students studying at HNC have access to a wide range of careers support, from taking part in high value work placements to meeting with our qualified Careers Advisors to discuss their post-18 plans. The comprehensive careers support at HNC not only supports students to build on their skills and experiences, it also encourages students to research careers and routes beyond College that they may not have previously considered. We are incredibly proud of Matthew for securing his dream apprenticeship with KPMG. This is a process that expects hopeful applicants to put their best foot forward through all stages of the process, and Matthew’s commitment and motivation to pursuing his dream career has been rewarded with success. Well done Matthew!”
