POKE AND PROVOKE: HNC’S YOUNG ENTERPRISE GROUP LAUNCH THEIR 2025 CAMPAIGN

HNC’s Young Enterprise Team, ‘Poke and Provoke’, are on a mission to support young adults with a contemporary and provocative campaign to raise awareness of teenage cancer diagnoses, as well as how young adults can make healthy and sensible decisions about their bodies, by breaking down the barriers surrounding sexual health narratives.

Young Enterprise (YE) is a UK based charity that works with schools and colleges across the country to provide young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to progress to the world of work with confidence. Groups, mentored by local business leaders, are tasked with creating a product and successfully launching it to market, with individuals within the team working on areas such as finance, strategy, marketing and procurement.

At HNC, students can take part in the scheme through HNC’s enrichment programme. The College have a long-standing history of success with the YE scheme, with last year’s group ‘Colourful Adventures’ reaching the UK grand finals in 2024, and HNC’s team for 2025 are hoping to emulate their success. The group, who have been working with Mike Hall, a local business consultant, recently attended a trade Fair at the White Rose shopping centre to formally launch their business, ‘Poke and Provoke’. The group, who are hoping to raise awareness of teenage cancer symptoms by removing the stigma from discussing sexual health concerns, have created a range of provocative keyrings that aim to start conversations and educate young adults in how they can stay fit and healthy.

Sara Graul, Faculty Lead Enlighten and YE lead, comments “I am delighted to announce the launch of our Young Enterprise team for 2025. Poke and Provoke is an innovative campaign that is both bold and brave. This is a campaign that is designed to support young adults to understand how they can detect early symptoms of cancer and protect their sexual health, and the team have worked hard to create a product that is both purchasable and creates further conversation around a tricky topic. Throughout the YE process, the group have demonstrated the College’s values of consistency, accountability, commitment and courage, overcoming a range of challenges to deliver a business idea and product that they can quite rightly be proud of. I am looking forward to seeing where their Young Enterprise journey takes them!”
