Student Wellbeing

As a considerate College we care about the wellbeing of students and understand that happy students are placed in the best position to succeed. Our focus is on building resilience, and equipping students with the tools and strategies that ensure when they leave HNC, they can successfully progress to the next step in their personal journey.

Our provision helps students to be in charge of their own future,  and makes sure that they are equipped to deal with life’s challenges and problems. We are honest with our students, helping them to understand that our service is designed to enable them to take ownership of what may be affecting them, where this is within their control.

Our expectations as a College are clear to students, but alongside this we ensure that they are aware of how we can help them during those times they may be experiencing barriers to meeting these. Where this is the case, our Student Wellbeing service is available to help. This confidential support service is available for students who wish to discuss any personal mental, emotional and physical concerns.  Services include:

  • 30 minute bookable 1:1 appointments. There is no topic that the team do not cover, and we work with students on topics as diverse as relationship advice, housing concerns, healthy living, exams stress and bereavement
  • Drop-ins for quick questions and product collections (subject to staff availability)
  • A Student Wellbeing resource area sharing an abundance of self-help information, downloadable resources and links
  • LGBTQ+ support group facilitated in a safe and confidential space
  • FREE period products
  • FREE contraception service
  • Referrals to external support, where appropriate

As a College, we actively work to promote and support good mental wellbeing, whilst respectfully working to help students to develop the emotional confidence and resilience to take their next step in life with confidence.
