Equality and Diversity

An inclusive and diverse community

We are incredibly proud of our inclusive, diverse and collaborative College community. HNC is a College where students love to learn and staff love to teach – we empower each other to live authentically in an environment that fosters resilience and empathy. Every member of our community is free to be the person they are at HNC.

Our students and staff come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, and respect is at the heart of our College experience. Our community is vibrant, and reflects the diversity of the workplace.

“HNC has a very inclusive environment, and you meet people from all backgrounds and communities. It feels such a warm and welcoming place when you walk in. This is reflected in the classroom too – the teachers are really experienced, and explain difficult topics in a way that everyone can understand. I received so much help and support when applying for my degree, and this has helped me to stay focused. This challenge has helped me to stay motivated to do the best I can.”

As a College our approach to equality and diversity is embedded within our curriculum, with students given the opportunity to explore and celebrate their own differences inside and outside of the classroom. Naturally, students also explore their role in a diverse and modern Britain in all aspects of life at HNC.

We offer regular opportunities to celebrate this approach on a whole College scale, with a range of events. Opportunities include:

  • Two themed Equality and Diversity Weeks each year
  • The chance to be a Student Equality and Diversity Ambassador and make a difference
  • Guest speakers
  • Participation in national weeks such as Anti-Bullying Week and UK Parliament Week
  • Celebratory events to help you embrace and celebrate difference
