HNC Alumni Programme

HNC has supported thousands of students over the past 50 years to achieve the life-changing qualifications needed to progress to their dream careers. We love to hear from our past students about their journeys post HNC – and so do our students. Our Alumni Programme brings together our past students in a way which supports the success of our current cohort. As an Alumni of HNC, you could support us in a number of ways – from featuring as a case study on our website, showcasing to our students where their qualifications could take them, to returning to HNC to deliver a workshop or guest lecture, to making a genuine impact on our young people and wider community by joining our Corporation as a Governor. Any support our Alumni can provide makes a genuine difference to our College community and is much appreciated. Below, we share some of our past students’ journeys beyond HNC.

Ben Malone

Actor and singer

Ben left HNC in 2020 having studied A Level Drama and Theatre Studies, A Level, History and Applied Musical Theatre. With the encouragement of his teachers, Ben set his sights high, applying for and securing a place at The Arden School of Theatre in Manchester, studying for a degree in Acting for Live and Recorded Media. After successfully completing his degree, Ben moved on to performing across the world, working as a lead vocalist on some of the world’s biggest cruise ships. Ben has always been supportive of the next generation of performers here at HNC, often returning to deliver masterclasses to our current students, sharing his knowledge and passion for all things performance, and inspiring our students to aim high when planning their next steps after HNC.

Iqra Anjam

Teacher and Business Owner

After studying A Level Business Studies, A Level Law, A Level English Literature and A Level Psychology at HNC in 2015, Iqra progressed to studying Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the University of Huddersfield. From working in retail management, Iqra had a change of career direction and moved into teaching, which led her to start her own Tuition business, Kumon Tuition. Iqra now supports pupils from across the Kirklees area to access additional tuition in English and Maths – mixing her expertise in Business with her love for teaching. Iqra has also recently returned to the University of Huddersfield to undertake a Masters in Management, which she we will be completing this academic year.

James Bowers

Waystone UK CEO

James left HNC in 1987 after gaining A Levels in English Literature, Ancient History and Literature, and Latin. After completing his studies at HNC, James moved on to read English Literature at the University of Nottingham, and after graduating, made the move to London and found a temporary role at an asset management company – which turned out to be the first step in an illustrious career! James specialised in product development, and from there, gained experience and worked his way to management and then executive roles. He is currently the UK CEO for Waystone, a fund administration and management services company, supporting investment clients across the globe.

Tom O’Rourke

Sport Coach – Huddersfield Town Foundation, Football Coach – Huddersfield Town Women’s Academy

Tom left HNC in 2024, and studied Football Coaching at the University of South Wales in partnership with the Huddersfield Town Foundation. During his time at university, Tom undertook a variety of placements with the Foundation, and made such an impression that he now provides coaching support for the organisation, working across a number of community programmes – including delivering the Premier League Primary Stars programme in local primary schools. Tom also coaches the Huddersfield Town Women’s Academy, putting the skills developed in his Applied Sport and Exercise Science course at HNC into practice.

Tyler Lewis

Assistant Psychologist

Tyler studied A Level Psychology, A Level Drama and Theatre Studies, and Applied Musical Theatre, and after leaving HNC in 2020, progressed to Durham University to study Psychology. After completing her studies, Tyler secured a role as an Assistant Psychologist, and now works in a dual role, working between a local university’s children and young people’s psychological trainings team and a local NHS trust. Tyler’s next step is to complete a PhD at Northumbria University and will be starting her research project in 2026.

Jayapreet Bains-Williams

Lecturer and Masters student

During her time at HNC, Jayapreet was a Head Student, and alongside her studies in A Level Sociology, A Level Psychology and A Level Drama and Theatre Studies, performed in the end of year musical, Grease. Having progressed from HNC to Manchester Metropolitan University to study BSc Criminology and Sociology, she’s now studying for an MA in Social Research and is next planning to progress to study for a PhD. Alongside her studies, Jayapreet supports students with their degree level statistics studies.
