HNC’s Cricket Academy have recently returned from their annual match against globally famous Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) hosted at Honley Cricket Club.
MCC, known for being the guardians of the laws of the game and whose home ground is dubbed ‘the home of cricket’, is a leading cricket team, with thousands of players from across the world taking part in over 400 matches on behalf of the club annually. HNC’s Cricket Academy team were recently invited to play a competitive match against them at Honley Cricket Club, putting the skills they have developed in training to the test in a challenging match that saw them play brilliantly against a team of experienced cricketers.
MCC commenced batting and posted an impressive 220/4 declared. Zeb B, the pick of the HNC bowlers, took 3 wickets in 55 runs from his 8 overs, and with this promising start to the chase, reached 40/1 to 81/3. Next, Jack K brought an excellent half-century to the game, and after being dismissed for 51, the score moved to 94/4 to 120 all out. Whilst unable to claim victory on this occasion, it is without a doubt that the Academy players can be incredibly proud of the level of talent and sportsmanship shown on the day.

Jamie Marsden, Head of Faculty (Enlighten) and Sports Academy Lead shares more “Playing against MCC at the beautiful ground of Honley Cricket Club is an experience to remember. Our Cricketers demonstrated admirable resilience and commitment in what was a challenging game. Throughout the match the team demonstrated exemplary organisation, problem solving and communication skills, putting the OPTICS skills developed both in the classroom and in training to the test. I am incredibly proud of our Cricket Academy team, who I know will use this experience to further develop their skills in their journey to becoming their best selves”.
