A SNAPSHOT OF UNIVERSITY LIFE: HNC PHOTOGRAPHERS VISIT THE UNIVERSITY OF HUDDERSFIELD

HNC’s Year 12 A Level Photography students have recently returned from an inspirational visit to the University of Huddersfield where they took part in a number of photography workshops ahead of starting their personal investigation unit.

Students studying A Level Photography at HNC are supported to discover and develop their own unique artistic style through a range of enriching and enlightening experiences. In a recent visit to the University of Huddersfield’s School of Arts and Humanities, our Year 12 students – who will soon be starting their personal investigation unit – took part in two hands-on workshops to explore some of the fundamental theories of photography in the University’s state of the art studio spaces.

Workshop one saw the group take part in a session named ‘drawing with light’, experimenting with lighting including high key, low key and macro techniques. Workshop two focused on location photography, with the group taking photos on campus and working with the University’s architecture, using natural light to capture visually exciting location imagery. After the sessions, the group were invited to tour the wider arts facilities, hearing from professors and current students about the breadth of courses available, and what life as a student of the university could look like.

Jodie Furlong, Teacher of A Level Photography, comments “Our recent visit to the University of Huddersfield has been a genuinely enlightening experience for our Year 12 Photographers, who have been encouraged to explore the language of photography and further develop their own visual voice with the techniques explored in these hands-on creative workshops. Taking part in degree level workshops is a key way in which inspire our students’ creativity and support our students to deepen their understanding of the subject. Taking part in experiences beyond the classroom is one of the ways in which we support our students as they embark on their personal investigation. Thank you to the University of Huddersfield for such a welcoming and brilliant day – I can’t wait to see how our students interpret the lessons learned in their own unique work in the coming months”.
