HNC’s Young Enterprise team (YE), Discreetly Yours, continue to progress through the Young Enterprise competition, and were recently awarded ‘Best Stall’ at the YE West Yorkshire Trade Fair, hosted at the White Rose Shopping Centre.
Young Enterprise is a national initiative that sees students from across the UK develop business skills in key areas such as finance, marketing and enterprise. Students taking part develop a business plan with the support of their teachers and mentor, with the group initially allocating key roles, generating a product idea and undertaking a range of research and fundraising activities before taking part in a number of regional activities and presenting their business idea at the Regional Finals.
The College’s current Young Enterprise team, Discreetly Yours, who have created a product aimed at reducing the stigma surrounding periods and sanitary wear, recently attended the YE Trade Fair, hosted at the White Rose shopping centre, with the aim of raising awareness of their brand and selling their product. Joined by a number of other teams from across the West Yorkshire region, the groups were competing for shoppers’ attention. On the day the HNC team worked hard to create a stall that looked engaging and welcoming – resulting in the team raising a number of sales and winning an award for the ‘Best Stall’, award by the regional YE Trade Fair organising body.
Discreetly Yours will now move on to the Regional Finals at Bradford College, where they will present their business idea with the hopes of progressing to the next round of the competition. Amanda Beirne shares more “Young Enterprise is a national competition that encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to develop their business skills with the support of an industry mentor – allowing them to build the key skills that employers and universities are looking for. The team behind Discreetly Yours have been working hard behind the scenes to develop a product they are truly passionate about, and despite having some initial challenges to overcome, have worked hard to bring a genuinely useful and important product to market. I am incredibly proud of the team for their resilience and enthusiasm, and achieving the ‘Best Stall’ award at the YE Trade Fair was testament to the way they have pulled together as a team. Thank you to Mike Hall who has mentored the team throughout. I can’t wait to see what the next round of the competition brings!”
