HNC is delighted to announce that students from the College’s A Level Economics course will be taking place in a university level programme in collaboration with the University of Huddersfield, to stretch and challenge the knowledge developed in the classroom in preparation for progressing to university to study an Economics related degree.
In A Level Economics, students study a variety of fiscal topics, discovering more about the national and global economics that impact our everyday lives and exploring the difficult decisions that politicians make and why they make them. In this fascinating series of workshops in collaboration with the University of Huddersfield, A Level Economics students will be exploring a variety of enlightening economics topics and taking part in a range of hands-on workshops, from a Bank of England innovation competition to exploring why nations can sometimes fail. In the first of this series of seven sessions, Dr Shabbir Dastgir, a senior lecturer of Financial Economics at the University of Huddersfield, delivered a fast-paced workshop which challenged students to develop their knowledge in several challenging areas of Economics including Environmental and Health Economics, as well as exploring the wide-variety of careers and sectors that students who study the subject can progress to.
The next scheduled workshop will be taking place in December and will see students “Become the Chancellor”, exploring the intricacies and complex decision-making processes that underpin balancing a country’s finances. Daryl Stappard, Head of Faculty, comments “It is a fascinating time to be studying A Level Economics. It is well known that governments globally are struggling to balance the books and there are tensions across the political spectrum on how to cope with the cost-of-living and inflation crises that have dominated economies world-wide. Many of our A Level Economics students are keen to progress to a related career, and these engaging and immersive experiences planned with the University of Huddersfield are another way in which we are preparing our students for success and their future careers”.
You can discover more about studying A Level Economics at our upcoming lesson taster event on Tuesday 3 December. Find out more and book your space here.
