An enriching experience
Studying Applied Business at HNC is an enriching experience. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and interests, broadening your horizons and building your cultural capital. These experiences are integral to life at HNC and will help you to stand out from the crowd. Some of the experiences our Applied Business students enjoy include:
- Work placements, including to international destinations and the chance to work in overseas locations. This year students have travelled to Malta and Valencia. This included work experience placements with international brands such as Zara
- A chance to take part in national competitions, such as the Young Enterprise challenge
- Connections with leading employers including PwC, with the potential to secure an internship or degree level apprenticeship
- The opportunity to put your skills and knowledge into action, including as a Business Ambassador hosting College events
- Taking part in lunchtime enrichments such as Investor Challenge, Journalism, Events Management and Glow up Your PowerPoint
Through your experience of practical activities and academic theory you will develop your self-confidence and communication skills. Inside the classroom you’ll enjoy a variety of learning methods, including group work, role play and presentations, which will develop your work- based skills such as teamwork and communication – all of which are essential in the world of work.

How will you be assessed?
This course is assessed via presentations, group work, assignments, and externally assessed exams.
Students who gain this qualification progress on to a wide range of destinations, and the opportunities you can access are vast. There are naturally progression routes within the industry – there are not many careers that our Applied Business qualification does not support! Our students progress into a wide range of fields, often opting for related careers such as Accountancy, Law, Marketing and HR. An increasing number of students have also successfully progressed to degree level apprenticeships, and some students opt for direct entry into the workplace in roles such as leisure and tourism and retail management. Please note, this course is an Extended Diploma. This means it is a full time study programme and therefore is not available to study alongside any other subject. If you would like to study Applied Business as part of a wider study programme, this course is also available as:
