FUTURE JOURNALISTS PRODUCE INSIGHTFUL AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING EDITION OF THE HNC ECHO
09.07.2026Today is the last day of term for HNC students and we are proud to conclude the term with the publication of the HNC Echo, our College magazine written by students, for students.
Students interested in creative writing or journalism can express themselves creatively by writing a piece for the College magazine, and alongside developing their writing skills they are able to participate in a range of skills-based workshops that extend their skills and knowledge. Some of the topics during the enrichment included feature writing, media ethics and structuring news articles, and the group also enjoyed a guest lecture with Karl Hodges who teaches Journalism at Leeds Beckett University.
Their hard work has culminated in a very special edition of the HNC Echo magazine which has some fantastic articles on topics from women’s rights and politics, to film reviews and an exploration of how running can improve mental health.

Hayley Doyle, who has hosted the HNC Echo enrichment, comments: “I have been blown away by the quality and depth of articles from this cohort of young journalists. From taking on hotly debated topics such as current politics to thought provoking features about if we have seen a regression in women’s rights, the quality of this edition’s submissions are incredible, and well worth a read. Whatever career our students progress to, I am sure they’ll enjoy a bright future.”
