IT’S TIME FOR VISION WEEK 2!

HNC has announced that next week is Vision Week 2, the second event in the academic year where students have a dedicated opportunity to really explore and reflect on where their qualifications can take them, to help them plan the steps they will need to take in order to secure their vision for the future.

Naturally, students at HNC can access careers support throughout the year and are given regular opportunities to be inspired about the possibilities available to them after HNC. Next week’s Vision Week 2 will see students really drilling down into the detail of planning their next steps, and provide time to reflect on new possible opportunities.

Activities will take place during lessons, and each will link directly to the subject being studied and the opportunities that these qualifications present. Just some of the activities taking place include:

  • Health and Social Care: visiting speakers from higher education institutions will join students to explore roles such as physiotherapy and coaching. Students will also be able to hear about work placement opportunities abroad
  • Art and Media: students will be applying for mock jobs, writing letters to their future self about their career ambitions, and looking at the realities of being self employed
  • Social Sciences: classes will be looking at the roles of a solicitor and barrister, and will also be visiting a university to explore Law degrees
  • Business and IT: groups will be exploring specific degree pathways, writing CVs and looking at how they would need to prepare for their first day of employment
  • Maths and Science: students will welcome a range of guest lecturers looking at STEM based degrees, and learn more about biomedical careers, including at a special breakfast networking event
  • Humanities: our young people will gain a fascinating look at Criminology degrees via a guest lecture looking at exploitation in the precious gem industry, and experience a special session looking at how AI may change the face of employment opportunities.

Maria Dean, Assistant Principal comments: “We know that when students have a clear vision for the future, they achieve more highly in their studies. Naturally, for some students this can be highly specific, while others may have a broader vision such as aiming to attend university. We work with students to help them to develop a clear aim for life post HNC, and they experience a range of opportunities to be inspired and learn more about a diversity of career paths throughout their HNC journey. Our Vision Weeks enable our whole College community to come together to enjoy a focused week of activities which allow students to delve  more deeply into the opportunities that are created by their specific qualifications. Students are set to enjoy another action packed week, and we look forward to hearing their feedback!”
