HNC has recently welcomed students from the University of Huddersfield’s BSc (Hons) Physical Education and Youth Sport Coaching degree to deliver a range of coaching sessions for the College’s Year 12 Applied Sport and Exercise Students as part of a year-long programme to develop coaching and teaching skills for students studying at both the College and the University.
HNC and the University of Huddersfield enjoy a longstanding partnership that sees both providers working collaboratively to benefit our community of learners. We recently welcomed students from the University to deliver coaching sessions in football, hockey, netball and volleyball to students currently studying for a qualification in Applied Sport and Exercise Science, providing the university students with an opportunity to deliver coaching in a genuine academic setting.
Students from the University will be returning for session 2 in the coming weeks, with the next session being used to assess their coaching skills, and will form part of their final degree award. Sessions 3 and 4 will see the roles reversed, with the College’s students delivering their own coaching sessions to the University’s students as part of the topic ‘Unit 6: Coaching for Performance’.
Tom Smith, Faculty Lead Enrich Sport and Health, comments “Our partnership with the University of Huddersfield is hugely beneficial, as it allows both our students, and the degree level students, to develop their coaching and training skills in a genuine learning environment, allowing both cohorts to add a wider level of understanding to the skills and theories they learn in the classroom. Working with degree-level students also provides our Applied Sport and Exercise Science students an opportunity to see how they can bring their own coaching skills up to the next level, helping them to achieve highly in their own assessments, and inspiring them as to where their qualification could take them post-HNC”.
