This hands on and engaging course will provide you with the knowledge, skills and experience required for an exciting range of roles within the creative media industry, including production, commissioning and editing. In Applied Creative Media (Digital Film and Video), you’ll explore a range of techniques and processes that are involved in creating film and TV productions, putting the knowledge you learn in the classroom to the test across a range of creative projects.

This course is an Extended Certificate (equivalent to 1 A Level) and so can be studied as part of a wider study programme. We also offer this course as a full time option. Please see the link below to find out more:

Your learning experience

The topics you study in this one A Level equivalent course will provide you with an introduction to the TV, film and wider creative industries, preparing you for further study or employment. Topics you’ll study include:

Studying Applied Creative Media (Digital Film and Video) at HNC is an enriching experience. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and interests, broadening your horizons and building your cultural capital. These experiences are integral to life at HNC and will help you to stand out from the crowd. Some of the experiences our Applied Digital Film and Video students enjoy include:

  • Visiting TV and Media sets to build work related skills. Media Studies students recently visited the Emmerdale set for a behind the scenes tour
  • Participating in inspirational and valuable guest workshops with local industry leaders and university lecturers
  • Taking part in lunchtime enrichment opportunities such as creative writing short courses, taking a closer look at the West Yorkshire based and BAFTA award winning Happy Valley, and writing for the College magazine
  • Undertaking a rigorous mock interview process and the opportunity to earn a work- placement with the College’s Marketing team
  • Taking part in residential trips and visits such as the annual trip to the Harry Potter Studios in London
