HNC’S MEN’S FOOTBALL TEAM REPRESENT YORKSHIRE AND THE HUMBER AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

After another successful season of football, HNC is delighted to reveal that the Men’s Football Team were placed third nationally in the Association of College’s (AoC) National Finals.

The AoC National Championships, this year held at the University of Nottingham, is a nationwide celebration of college level competitive sports. It is the largest event of its kind in Europe, and students taking part in the National Finals have worked hard in one of twelve chosen sports to qualify for a place at these prestigious games.

HNC’s Men’s Football Academy team have played tirelessly this season, competing within the AoC framework against teams from across Yorkshire and the Humber. This resulted in the team being crowned regional champions, qualifying them for a place at the National Finals, just one of ten teams from across the UK to do so. Over the two days of the games, the team were dominant competitors, winning 4 of their 6 games on the first day of the finals. The next day saw the team put in another solid performance, unfortunately losing their first game 1-0 to the eventual champions, Itchen College.

Achieving third place in the league is a record for the Men’s Football Academy. Jamie Marsden, Head of Faculty Academy Sport, comments “I am delighted that our Men’s Football Academy this year secured their highest ever placing at the AoC’s National Finals in what was an incredibly competitive championship. Just to qualify for these games was a feat in itself, and I am incredibly proud of the team who showed a genuine commitment to their game, were motivated throughout the season and consistently played to the best of their ability. Their dominant performance on the Saturday really is testament to just how well the teamwork collaborate and support each other. The players truly lived our College values during the tournament, and I am incredibly proud of the excellent behaviour, self discipline and empathy they displayed at all times. As always, we are looking forward to building on this success as our team continues to go from strength to strength.”
