SHAPING THEIR FUTURES: HNC STUDENTS PLAN NEXT STEPS DURING ANNUAL CAREERS DAY

HNC’s annual careers event has once again been a huge success, with over 80 different organisations, employers, universities and training providers joining us for an inspiring day designed to support the College’s Year 12 students as they begin to plan for their future careers.

Students studying at HNC are supported throughout their journey to plan for their futures, so that they can progress to their next steps with confidence. Our annual careers event – which Year 12 students from across the College attend – is HNC’s flagship careers event, and is aimed at supporting students as they progress to Year 13 to start making decisions about their future progression routes. On the day we were joined by over 80 different organisations, employers, universities and training providers, and students were invited to take part in three sessions, with each student visiting the careers fair and taking part in two workshops linked to their vision for the future.

The careers fair, hosted in the College’s sports barn, gave students an opportunity to discover more generally about the wide range of opportunities available to them post-HNC, network with local employers and explore the different routes available to them. With national organisations such as Warburtons, HSBC, the NHS, Squire Patton Boggs and Jet2, and university representatives including Bradford, Huddersfield, Lancaster, Leeds Trinity and Nottingham attending, students had access to a range of valuable information. As well as attending the careers fair, students also had the opportunity to take part in two workshops, choosing from over 60 different sessions and a wide range of guest speakers. From learning more about how to manage personal finances to discovering what life at university could look like, students enjoyed a range of sessions designed to give students a flavour of what their next steps could look like. Students also had the opportunity to take part in a variety of ‘day in the life’ style sessions to hear from professionals about their roles and sectors, from architects to doctors, lawyers to accountants and many, many more!

Joe Norton, Director of Independent Learning, comments, “Our annual careers event is a genuinely exceptional opportunity for our Year 12 students to firm up their progression plans ahead of moving into their final year of Level 3 study. When they return after the summer break, they will be thinking seriously about applying for their next steps, and can go into this process feeling confident that they have researched their choices thoroughly. Thank you to all the brilliant delegates for giving up their time to share more about their roles and organisations. I know that our students have come away from the day inspired and excited for their futures and we look forward to hosting another brilliant event next year”.
