TAKING PERFORMANCE TO THE NEXT LEVEL: HNC’S MUSICAL THEATRE STUDENTS ENJOY GUEST LECTURE

HNC’s Musical Theatre students have recently welcomed past HNC student, Gray Preston, back to College to deliver an inspirational session, sharing more about her journey from HNC to degree level Musical Theatre study with Year 13 students.

HNC’s Musical Theatre students develop singing, dancing and acting techniques that support progression to a wide range of performance-based degree courses. In this insightful session, our current Musical Theatre cohort heard from past student, Gray, who left HNC in summer 2025, and is now enrolled at York St John University studying for a degree in Musical Theatre. In the session, Gray shared more about her journey from college to university, and what students can expect if they progress to a related degree.

Gray discussed a diverse range of topics, from the different modules she is studying as part of her degree, to what life is genuinely like as a student at the university, including her experience in halls of residence as a first-year student. The group also enjoyed a Q&A, discovering more about the audition process and what they can expect from a career in the Performing Arts sector.

Cat John, Teacher of Musical Theatre shares more “Students studying for a qualification in Musical Theatre often aspire to secure a career on the stage – and the next step is often progressing to a university or conservatoire to study a specialist subject. It was lovely to welcome back Gray to HNC to share more about her journey and how she secured a place on her dream degree at York St John University. It is incredibly important for our current cohort to understand the path they could take and what that journey could look like, and I know that the group found the session incredibly enlightening as they make plans for their own next steps”.

HNC is delighted to share that from September 2026, the College will be offering a brand new Musical Theatre course – you can find out more here.
