This is a course suited to students who enjoy spending time performing, and you must be confident in spending time in the spotlight! You’ll be expected to play a leading role in our high-energy College performances and work collaboratively with your peers as part of your qualification.

An enriching experience
Studying Applied Performing Arts – Musical Theatre at HNC is an enriching experience. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and interests, broadening your horizons and building your cultural capital. These experiences are integral to life at HNC and will help you to stand out from the crowd. Some of the experiences our Applied Performing Arts students enjoy, include:
- Performing in our end of year College musical- this year, Musical Theatre students hosted a performance of Chicago
- Performing in our annual Cabaret showcase
- Participating in inspirational and valuable guest workshops with prestigious performance companies and notable alumni
- Attending shows and performances in local theatres
- Residential trips and visits – this year our students enjoyed spending time in London to experience the West End
- Taking part in lunchtime enrichments such as Acro, Acting in a Musical and Singing Techniques & Acting Through Song

Assessment is via examinations and coursework.
Our Applied Performing Arts – Musical Theatre students have progressed to a range of degrees and Conservatoires. Our Alumni include Lawrence Guntert, Swing/Dance Captain in Mamma Mia (West End), Jed Hoyle, whose performance credits include Ensemble/Cover Elder Cunningham, Elder McKinley and Joseph Smith in The Book of Mormon (West End), Brad Majors in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Olivia Midley, who currently performs on Disney Cruise Lines, and Ohaana Greaves, who has performed in The Bodyguard, Tina: Tina Turner The Musical and Hairspray.
The diverse nature of the Performing Arts – Musical Theatre course means that you will complete your studies with a valuable set of skills – including public speaking, teamwork and organisation that are transferable to a range of degree courses and job roles.
