Studying Applied Music Performance at HNC is an enriching experience. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and interests, broadening your horizons and building your cultural capital. These experiences are integral to life at HNC and will help you to stand out from the crowd. Some of the experiences our Music Performance students enjoy, include:
• Working with local primary schools to deliver aspirational workshops
• Taking part in music showcase performances – as well as supporting end of year showcases across the Performing Arts department
• Participating in inspirational and valuable guest workshops and university lecturers
• Residential trips and visits – this year our students enjoyed spending time in London to experience the West End

HNC is home to professional grade music facilities, including state-of-the-art recording and mixing studios. Your studies will see you planning and hosting a public music event using our professional standard Performing Arts theatre which features the latest industry standard equipment and lighting. During assessment you will have the opportunity to showcase instrumental/vocal skills, knowledge of music styles and theory, as well as your ability to plan and work as a group and independently.
How will you be assessed?
Assessment is via examination and coursework.
Gaining a qualification in Music (Music Performance) has allowed our students to progress to higher education – naturally many students who study this course progress to a degree in a related field, however, the creativity and skills developed during this qualification lend themselves to a wide range of destinations. This course also supports progression to the workplace, including degree level apprenticeships, with many students moving into a wide range of industry-based roles such as Commercial Songwriter, working in a recording studio and producing library music, music for radio and music for computer games.
