A Level

A Level Textile Design is as creative as it is academic. In this dynamic course you will explore a wide range of high-level creative techniques and processes that will allow you to develop an in-depth understanding of shape, form, texture, pattern and colour. During the course, you’ll research designers and artists to inspire and inform your work. You’ll be supported to develop your own creative style, as well as building key skills in garment construction.

Throughout your time on the course you will build a comprehensive portfolio which will inform your final projects.

The examining body for this qualification is AQA.

Your learning experience

You will develop your skills through studying a diverse range of topics and techniques, including:

  • Felt making
  • Fabric manipulation
  • Pattern cutting

An enriching experience

Studying A Level Textile Design at HNC is an enriching experience. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and interests, broadening your horizons and building your cultural capital. These experiences are integral to life at HNC and will help you to stand out from the crowd. Some of the experiences our A Level Textile Design students enjoy include:

  • Visits to European cities such as Venice to visit galleries, research designers and build cultural capital
  • Exhibiting work in an end of year showcase, including the Fashion Show
  • Participating in inspirational and valuable guest workshops with local artists and university lecturers
  • Taking part in lunchtime enrichments such as Scrapbooking, Photography Club, Knitting Club, Sewing Club and Green “Fast” Fashion!
  • Working in industry standard textile design studios to develop garment construction skills

Assessment is via examination and coursework.

Where does it lead?

A Level Textile Design will support your progression to careers such as Fashion, Textile Design, Interior Design and Costume Design. Many of our students progress to related degrees and some have gone on to work for world leading organisations including Max Mara and Versace.

This is a highly valued qualification that can support a wide range of careers where creative skills are an asset such as marketing and teaching. A Level Textile Design students have recently progressed to university to study subjects such as:
