HNC has this week been celebrating Pride and IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia), bringing together HNC’s diverse community and re-affirming our commitment to inclusivity.
Students at HNC become their best selves through an enriching and enlightening experience inside and outside of the classroom and thrive in an environment that celebrates a diverse community. This week, our Performing Arts and Sports and Health students have hosted events to celebrate Pride and IDAHOBIT – the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia – which takes place annually on May 17 and is celebrated worldwide to raise awareness and stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.
Students from across the College were invited to join HNC’s Performing Arts students in the Junction to discover more about the origins of Pride and IDAHOBIT, collect a pronoun badge and rainbow ribbon for their lanyard, and share what Pride means to them. Meanwhile in the Sports Barn, Sport and Health students hosted an inclusive and welcoming activity session in which students of all abilities could take part in friendly Badminton and Table Tennis sessions. Students and staff from across the College were also invited to sign our Inclusivity pledge, re-affirming their commitment to our unique and diverse community.
Sara Graul shares more “Here at HNC we are committed to making each and every one of our students and staff feel welcomed, and inclusivity is an embedded part of life at HNC. Our Pride and IDAHOBIT celebrations help us to raise awareness and show our support for our LGBTQ+ community, and it is wonderful to see so many of you wearing your badges with pride on your lanyards. I am incredibly proud of the work that our students from Performing Arts and Sport and Health put in to making the events this week so successful. Thank you to everyone who supported the events”
