Studying A Level Spanish at HNC is an enriching experience. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and interests, broadening your horizons and building your cultural capital. These experiences are integral to life at HNC and will help you to stand out from the crowd. Some of the experiences our A Level Modern Foreign Language students enjoy include:
- Residential visits to Spain to soak up the culture and practise the language
- Taking part in debates in Spanish
- Taking part in lunchtime enrichment opportunities such as a MFL Film Club
- Participating in inspirational and valuable guest workshops and university lecturers

We have excellent links with schools across the continent and participate in an international exchange programme.
How will you be assessed?
This course is assessed via examination. You will also be tested through an oral assessment (30%), listening, reading and translation (50%) and writing (20%).
Speaking a second language can open up a huge range of doors; indeed, studies show that candidates who speak a second language can earn up to 20% more than their peers. Naturally, some students do choose A Level Spanish with the intention of progressing to a Modern Foreign Languages degree. However, progression pathways can be as diverse as Travel and Tourism, Translation, Business or Communications – there are few pathways in life where the skills and knowledge gained on this course are not an asset!
